FALL RIVER – Two advisors, plus thirteen students, divided by merely one month of preparation equaled academic success for Diman on Monday, November 23. That’s when three teams of Diman students competed in a vocational school math meet at Blue Hills Regional and earned 9th, 10th, and 14th place versus 23 other teams from 9 other schools.

The students’ success was remarkable given that the contest was Diman’s first, while most of the other teams have been competing for over a year. Diman’s team began training in early November and were only to hold 8 practice sessions.

“We’re extremely proud of our students’ achievement,” said Assistant Superintendent/Principal Kyle Alves. “To turn around so quickly and perform so well in the contest shows the caliber of students and teachers we have here at Diman.”

One of Diman’s teams entered the final round of the Jeopardy-style contest in fourth place, but were felled by aggressive betting in the “Final Jeopardy” contest, finishing 9th overall.

"Our teams demonstrated a great balance of strong leadership by team captains and positive collaboration to overcome challenging problems," enthused advisor Decio Matos. "Congratulations to everyone on the team - you made Diman proud! "

The team’s next meet should be held in late January at Bay Path Regional in Charleton, MA.

Competing Schools: Bay Path Regional, Blue Hills Regional, Diman Regional, Greater Lowell Technical, Keefe Regional, Norfolk County Agricultural, South Shore, Tri-County Regional, Vocational Technical High School, Upper Cape Cod Regional
