Creating a culture of hard work and team effort is the main theme at Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School.
Second-year head coach Luke Bahry said it has become the hallmark of the football program.
"The guys are competing like crazy," he said. "It is 10 times easier than what it was last year. The kids know what I expect, they know about the culture and they know we are about effort, team, and hard work. The kids believe it."
The Bengals begin the 2022 regular season on Sept. 9 when they travel to face non-league opponent Joseph Case on opening night. Diman finished the 2021 season with a 4-6 record.
Bahry said he likes what he sees so far in preseason camp.
"Last year, I had six guys leading the locker room," he said. "Now I have about 12. So they know what I expect. They are setting the example and holding kids accountable. They know the playbook as well. The teaching isn't as hard because they have already done it. I can also teach off of last year's film."
The Diman football team gears up for the season at practice Tuesday.
The number of students reporting for football on the first day was huge compared to last season. Bahry said the count was 97, including the freshman class.
"We are in a good spot as far as that goes," Bahry said. "It is just everyone knowing the plays."
The Bengals lost just seven players to graduation in the spring. But they were the bulk of the offense in 2021.
