Q&A with Lyndon Carreiro: Diman senior steps into the Sports Spotlight
By Greg Sullivan
Herald News Staff Reporter
NAME: Lyndon Carreiro
SCHOOL/YEAR OF GRADUATION: Diman Regional/2019

SPORTS: Football, basketball
Lyndon Carreiro did not complete his athletics career at Diman Regional struggling with a bunch of what-ifs. You know the ones. What if I had worked harder offseason? What if I had given 100 percent on game day? Whether it was football or basketball, the 6-foot-3 Carreiro could be counted on having himself prepared and then going all out. A tight end/defensive end last fall, he was Diman’s nominee for the Otto Graham Achievement Award, an honor which meant a great deal to him. This winter, he was the power forward for the Bengal basketball team that qualified for the playoffs as Carreiro averaged a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) per game. When asked to do our little Q&A, Carreiro was more than willing to oblige, becoming (we think) the first Diman male to step into the Sports Spotlight.
Herald News: What person, living or dead, do you most admire and why?
Lyndon Carreiro: My mom because she always puts my brothers and I before herself and always pushes me to be the best athlete, student and person I can be.
HN: Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?
LC: Paul Pierce because he plays the game the right way and put everything he had into his career.
HN: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
LC: I see myself staying in my trade (machine tool technology) from Diman and having a house with a family of my own.
HN: What has been your biggest moment as a high school athlete?
LC: Being nominated for the Otto Graham Award for football.
HN: When not playing high school sports, how do you spend your time?
LC: Mostly the gym and in the summer at the beach.
HN: If you were the principal of your school, what one change would you make?
LC: One thing I would change about my school would be to make academic success equal to success in sports because both require hard work and should be equally acknowledged.
HN: What do you hope people will say about you when your playing days are over?
LC: I would hope people would look back and remember how much time I put in to be a strong leader for my team to have underclassmen follow my footsteps.
HN: What is your favorite subject in school and why?
LC: English because people say I talk too much so I express myself through my writing.
HN: If you won a million dollars, what would be your first purchase?
LC: A plane ticket so I can avoid all of the people that I “owe money.”
HN: Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
LC: I love to cook and try making new things.
HN: What is your favorite dinner meal?
LC: Chicken broccoli alfredo.
HN: What is your favorite book?
LC: “The Godfather” by Mario Puzo which is also a movie but I read the book before watching it.
HN: What is your favorite video game?
LC: Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
HN: How long could you function without your smartphone?
LC: Depending on where I am, if I’m out doing something or with a group of people I try not to be that person. But if I’m home, forget about it.
HN: Whom in this world would you most like to hit in the face with a pie?
LC: I would say my older brother but that would be a waste of pie, unless it was lemon. Then I would Gronk spike it on his head.
