All ninth graders who enroll in Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School participate in a vocational technical exploratory program designed to help them learn about their talents and interests. Students list their top three exploratory choices on their application and explore each of them along with nine other shops (one of which is a non-traditional shop) for two to four days. Students are evaluated and scored) by each shop instructor. At the end of the students’ shop exploratory period, each student selects his/her program of choice, as well as a second third, fourth, fifth and sixth choice. Students are admitted into the shop of their choice based on the point total they receive on the Exploratory Evaluation Rubric. If a shop fills, based on point total, before a student gets his/her first choice, the Director of Guidance then moves to the student's second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth choice depending upon whether there is an opening in the shop.. If a student's point total on the Exploratory Evaluation Rubric does not qualify them for a shop of their choice, the Director of Guidance will place the student in a shop taking into consideration availability, shops explored, and student exploratory performance. This process continues until all students are placed.

Co-operative Education

Diman employs a Co-operative Education/Work Experience-Job Placement Coordinator who actively seeks employment for students directly related for their trade. Co-op sites are approved by the schools Occupational Coordinator by agreement under the Massachusetts Department of Education and Division Occupational Education. All final end of year placements following graduation are accomplished by the Job Placement Coordinator who works with the Pupil personal Office student accountability program.

The Co-operative Program allows 16 to 17 year olds to be employed in work-settings under the close supervision of qualified, experienced persons. Each senior passing grades in all subjects is encouraged to participate in this work and earn program. Co-op employment takes place during the student's vocational cycle allowing the student the opportunities to work in the trade in an alternating two week basis.

Job placement for graduation seniors who do not plan to enter the military or go on to higher education is a priority at Diman. It is expected that all students who satisfactorily complete their vocational training and desire to work in their field will be employed in their trade upon graduation.

In addition to placement in the trade, the Job Placement Coordinator assists in other services providing are resume update preparation, job seeking skills and alumni job placement into Diman's trade areas.

Graduation Requirements

In order to receive a diploma from Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, a student must earn a minimum of 140 credits. Student must have passed three (3) years of Shop Related, four (4) years of English Language Arts, four (4) years of Math and three and a half (3 1/2) years of shop, receiving a minimum grade of 65 in each subject. In order to receive a diploma, all students must pass MCAS tests in the subjects required by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

The balance of credits necessary to total 140 is acquired from other subjects in the curriculum. These requirements will differ proportionately for the students who enter Diman at the 10th or 11th grade level.

Academic Program

Diman's mission is to "develop the unique potential of each learner by having students acquire knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are needed to achieve personal, academic, vocational/technical, and civic goals." Diman offers all students three sound academic programs of study, School-to-Work, Tech Prep, and School-to-College. School-to-Work prepares students who will go directly into their trade upon graduation. Tech Prep prepares students for continuing their education in the post-secondary, technical, or community college programs. Tech prep is unique in that it allows all students to earn college credit for specific technical or community college programs of study while still in high school. School-to-college provides a demanding academic program, particularly in science and mathematics, offering student the opportunity to continue their education in a two or four year college program.

Particular courses taken should model one of those three recommended career paths. Each career path offers a challenging academic program that includes preparation to take and pass the MCAS test in order to receive a diploma as well as being proficient in a trade. Diman is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Each year, approximately 30 percent of Diman Graduates seek post-secondary education by continuing their education at a college or tech school. Most students major in areas related to their vocational studies at Diman.

Athletics

Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School offers interscholastic sports, a cheerleading program and an intramural program, sanctioned by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and compete in the Mayflower League. Athletic facilities include the John P. Harrington Athletic Fields, the James T. Ashley Gymnasium and a Weight Training/Fitness room. Students are encourage to participate in athletics as they offer opportunities for developing the full potential of students and provide valuable lessons that can be applied to innumerable life situations.

Pupil Personnel Services

Pupil Personnel Services is available to assist students with educational, vocational and personal-social information, and other services.

Each student is assigned to a counselor who works with that student during his/her period of enrolment here at Diman.

In addition to counseling, other services are available to students through PPS. They include:

Technical Institute

Diman Technical Institute offers Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) program on a tuitioned basis. There is a one year Day Program and two year Evening Program offered to district and out-of-district residents.
