Section I: Introduction
The Practical Nursing Program offers full-time day and part-time day programs. (The Part-time program starts in the fall of odd years; ie. 2019, 2021, etc.)
The full-time day program is a forty (40) week program. This program begins yearly on the Wednesday before Labor Day and finishes in mid-late June. Classes meet Monday through Friday with hours generally between 7:45AM – 2:45PM. Clinical hours vary, starting as early as 6:30AM until as late as 3:00PM. Some evening rotations may be required to meet course objectives.
The part-time day program is an 80-week program over a two (2) year period and meets three (3) days per week. Classes meet Monday through Wednesday (subject to change) with class hours generally 7:45AM – 12:00 PM (subject to change). Clinical hours vary, starting as early as 6:30AM until as late as 3:00PM. Some evening rotations may be required to meet course objectives.
The Practical Nursing Program has Full Approval Status from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
The Practical Nurse Program is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
The curriculum combines theory, laboratory, and clinical experiences. Classroom content includes biological and social sciences, humanities, nursing theory, and laboratory practice.
The faculty supervises care to multicultural and diverse human beings across their life span from birth to death. While the curriculum concentrates on caring for the older adult, new technologies, healthcare issues and community nursing needs are also addressed.
The Program curriculum is designed to prepare program graduates to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN).
Upon completion of the Program, graduates receive a certificate of completion and are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN (application cost incurred by student). Graduates anticipating licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must comply with the Good Moral Character for Licensure requirement. Program graduates who pass the NCLEX-PN are prepared to begin entry-level Licensed Practical Nurse careers in a variety of settings or have the opportunity to continue their nursing education.
All applicants for the Program are evaluated using the selection criteria outlined in this policy. All completed applications for the nursing program are reviewed and receive a response.

Section III. Eligibility
Applicants from in-district, out-of-district towns or out-of-state are eligible to apply to the Program on a rolling admissions process. Early admission acceptance (February 1) may be offered to those who complete the application process, meet the TEAS required scores, complete the interview process, submit references and whose total INTERVIEW score is 55 or above.

A.) Candidates for admission to the Practical Nurse Program are required to submit the following:

A completed application form and essay along with a non-refundable $25.00 application

Official High School transcript with evidence of graduation (or GED/HISET passing scores). Foreign country diplomas must be translated into English, and a certified equivalency to a U.S. education must be provided by the Center for Educational Documentation or American Education and Translation Corp. An average of a C or better in high school is preferred with consideration for trends demonstrating improvement and motivation or an Undergraduate degree from a United States accredited college.

Candidates must also schedule and take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS VII) entrance examination offered by the Assessment Technology Institute, LLC (ATI), and they must meet a minimum adjusted score in each of the four sections shown below or an overall score of Proficient to be further considered for the Program.
Reading: 65.0% or higher
Math: 63.0% or higher
Science: 42.0% or higher
English: 55.0% or higher
OR an overall score in the Proficient range (58.7 – 79.3%)
The TEAS test will be administered at Diman Regional Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing, and candidates will be given instructions for obtaining study materials.
Upon completing the above listed documentation, an interview with the Program Director and/or Department Head is required. The applicant will then be requested to submit three (3) professional references after the interview (reference forms will be given at that time).
B.) Upon notification of meeting eligibility requirements for the Practical Nursing Program, the following documentation must be provided to be accepted into the program:

- COVID-19 Vaccine - Either fully vaccinated (2 original vaccines with Pfizer or Moderna or 1 original J&J and 1 original Booster with Pfizer or Moderna) OR 1 Bivalent Booster (subject to change with DPH/CDC requirements for long term care facilities)
- Flu vaccine for current year (completed in fall of year of admission to program)
- Hepatitis B vaccine (3 doses mandatory) and positive titer
- Negative TB testing or negative CXR for positive converters, or negative Quantiferon blood test
- MMR vaccine or positive titers

Applicants interested in applying for admissions must:

Obtain an application by downloading it here https://www.dimanregional.org/application or by picking up an application at the Practical Nurse Program office (appointments necessary).

Submit a completed application form; typed essay and the $25.00 application fee by mail or in person to the Practical Nurse Program office.

Select an entrance exam test date for the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS VII) Examination. Pre-registration and payment are required prior to the testing date. The testing schedule may be found on the LPN website under TEAS Test. The test is given at Diman Regional Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing at 1082 Davol Street - 2nd Floor, Fall River, MA 02720

Applicants are required to bring a valid government issued photo ID or passport when registering for the test. TEAS VII covers reading,math, science, and English. The test takes approximately four (4) hours. Students are requested to arrive at school at least one (1) hour before the scheduled start time. Students are advised to prepare in advance for the exam.

TEAS VII study manuals may be purchased online from ATI (www.atitesting.com) and are also available on Amazon (Amazon.com), and Barnes and Noble (www.barnesandnoble.com) websites.

Only official TEAS VII scores from Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) will be considered for review. Students who have tested at a site other than Diman may have their scores forwarded through ATI for an additional fee. As of November 1, 2022, Diman Regional Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing will only accept TEAS testing in-person at our facility. Student supplied copies are not considered official and TEAS results can NOT be more than one year old. Applicants must wait thirty (30) days between retakes in order for scores to be accepted by the program and are only allowed three (3) attempts in one year.

Three (3) professional references: immediate supervisor (past or present), an employer (past or present), teachers or counselors, or a person with whom you have collaborated on a completed project or community service are suggested. Immediate family, friends or coworkers will not be considered. Reference forms will be given at the time of interview. Do not send generic references with the application.

At the time of interview, a spontaneous 100 word maximum handwritten essay will be required. The essay is scored for content and format.

Note: Scores listed are the maximum score for each category. Final admission is also contingent upon satisfactory results of the Criminal Offender Record Information Release (CORI) and Sexual Offender Record Information (SORI), if 18 years or older, health requirements, and CPR requirements.
Applicants will be ranked and accepted by the Admissions Committee and/or Program Director according to the procedure and criteria contained in this policy. A wait list will be established by the Committee. The wait list is valid for the current academic year. In-district applicants will be given priority when scores are equal. All applicants will be notified of their status.

Section VIII Review of Process
The applicant, upon receipt of a letter from the Program indicating that the applicant was not accepted or was placed on a wait list for admission, may request a review of this decision by requesting an appointment with the Program Director.
The Program Director will respond in writing to the findings within 30 days. If further review is necessary, the applicant may send a letter requesting a review to the Superintendent-Director. The Superintendent-Director will respond in writing to the letter with findings of the review within 30 days.

Tuition includes a $525.00 lab fee. This program cost is incurred at the beginning of the program and is non-refundable.
A $500 ($100.00 non-refundable) seat/orientation fee is not part of the tuition and is payable within 30 business days of the mailing date of an acceptance letter into the program. Payment of the fee ensures your seat in the Practical Nursing Program for the upcoming school year, orientation materials, and summer Math Moodle course.

Payments
Tuition for the Diman Regional Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing program will be divided into two (2) equal payments:
For students ELIGIBLE for Federal Financial Aid, the following formula will apply:
Total Tuition Less Anticipated Financial Aid = Balance to be divided into two (2) equal payments to be made on the following dates:

- August 7 and November 22 for full-time students
- Please note that if anticipated financial aid is not realized due to a change in circumstance, the student will be responsible for any remaining tuition.
For students NOT eligible for Federal Financial Aid:
The first tuition payment is due on August 7th for both full-time and part-time students; the second payment is due on January 2nd for full-time students and June 4th for part-time students. Payments can be made by cash, check, official bank check, money order, or by credit (VISA & Master Card). Credit card transactions must be completed in person, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Checks should be made payable to Diman Regional.
Non-payment of tuition in the stated period will jeopardize a student’s enrollment in the program.
Tuition Changes
Tuition changes are subject to the School Committee, State revisions, and data provided by the Department of Education. To qualify for in-district tuition, the applicant will be required to submit three (3) verifications of address upon receipt of the letter of acceptance. In-district includes residents of Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, and Westport.
Residency determined at the time of the acceptance letter will remain in effect for the duration of the upcoming school year. Students enrolled for longer than one year may have their residence re-evaluated by August 1 of the following year.
Withdrawal-Financial Aid Recipients
When a financial aid recipient withdraws or is dismissed from the program, Diman Regional Technical Institute School of Practical Nursing (DRTISPN) is required to apply for a prorated reduction in the financial aid that has been awarded. This pro-ration, called Return of Title IV funds, is required to be in effect through the 60% point in the payment.

Up until the 60% point in the payment period, a student has only earned a percentage of the financial aid that had been awarded, based on the percentage of hours the student has attended. The result of this policy is that even if the student had a financial aid award that covered institutional costs, the student may have a balance with DRTISPN if he/she withdraws. If you have any questions regarding this regulation, please contact the Financial Aid office.
Federal Title IV Financial Aid Refund Policy Notice to Students
The following policy applies to Title IV financial aid recipients and this statement is made available via the student handbook:
If you withdraw during a payment period while enrolled at DRTISPN, the school will follow this policy to determine the amount of Federal Title IV financial assistance you earned for your period of enrollment in the Program. This policy is different and distinct from the school’s refund policy. The Title IV programs that are covered by this regulation are Federal Pell Grants, Direct Loans, and Massachusetts State Grants.
When you withdraw during your payment period, the Federal Title IV financial assistance that you have earned up to that point is determined by a specific formula. If you (or the Practical Nursing Program or your parents on your behalf) received less financial assistance than the amount that you earned, you may be able to receive those additional funds. If you received more financial assistance than you earned, the excess funds must be returned to the U.S. Department of Education.
The amount of financial assistance that you have earned is determined on a prorated basis. For example, if you completed 25% of your payment period, you earned 25% of the financial assistance you were originally scheduled to receive. Once you have completed more than 60% of the payment period, you earn all the financial assistance that you were scheduled to receive for that period. If you did not receive all the funds that you earned, you may be due a post-withdrawal reimbursement. If your post-withdrawal disbursement includes loan funds, DRTISPN must receive your permission before it can disburse them.
DRTISPN may automatically use all or a portion of your post-withdrawal disbursement of grant funds for tuition, fees, and standard charges (as contracted with the school). The school needs your permission to use the post-withdrawal grant disbursement for all other charges. However, it may be in your best interest to allow the school to keep funds to reduce your debt at school. The school will return all funds it has received on your behalf that you have not earned under the federal formula.
You are responsible for returning funds that you have received directly for either the school or another organization. Any loan funds that you must return, you (or your parent for a PLUS Loan) repay per the terms of the promissory note. That is, you make scheduled payments to the holder of the loan over a period of time. Any amount of unearned grant funds that you must return is called an overpayment.
The formula for the amount earned from your federal student assistance is different from the DRTISPN Refund Policy. Therefore, you may still owe funds to DRTISPN to cover unpaid institution charges. DRTISPN may also charge you for any federal student financial assistance that the school was required to return.
Upon withdrawal, the school will provide you (in writing) with information on any adjustments to your financial aid for the period of enrollment covered by this policy that has been made to your financial award.
Financial Aid-Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
Federal regulations require DRTISPN to establish and apply reasonable standards of satisfactory progress for receipt of financial assistance under the programs authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
To make satisfactory academic progress toward a certificate, students must maintain specific grade averages and are expected to complete their program within 150% of the published length of the program. Satisfactory academic progress is measured at the end of each payment period, as well as at the end of each term.
At the end of the payment period, a student must have an average of 75% in all courses and must have completed the clinical objectives of the course to that point. Attendance for the scheduled hours is mandatory. A student may be placed on warning as a consequence of not making satisfactory progress. Warning status lasts for one payment period only, during which the student may continue to receive FSA funds. Students who fail to make satisfactory progress after the warning period lose their aid eligibility.
To maintain satisfactory academic progress and advance to the next term, a student must meet the following requirements:
- Attain a minimum grade of 75% in all courses.
- Successful completion of all clinical objectives presented at the beginning of each course.
- Meet attendance requirements to be eligible for promotion/graduation.
When a student is re-admitted into the program, the student is placed on a Financial Aid warning. A student on warning is still eligible to receive financial aid, but if the student does not complete their warning period, the student will be denied financial aid.
Tuition Policy for Readmission
Default
A student will be in default if s/he fails to pay what s/he owes to DRTISPN. If the Business Office at DRTISPN refers your default to an attorney or collection agency, the student will be responsible for paying the institutional cost of collection, whether or not a suit is brought. As the financial aid amounts are received, they will be credited to your account toward your current year's outstanding balance.
Refund Policy
The following policy has been established and approved by the Greater Fall River School District School Committee. Please remember that the $350.00 ($100.00 non-refundable) seat/ orientation fee is not part of the tuition. Additionally, the $525.00 lab fee which is included in the tuition is non-refundable. It will be retained to cover the student nursing lab and support materials assessed at the commencement of the program. Refunds when due will be made without requiring a request from the student. Refunds when due will be made within 45 days (1) of the last day of attendance if written notification has been provided to the institution by the student, or (2) from the date the institution terminates the student or determines withdrawal by the student.
Refund Schedule:
After registration but:
- Prior to one (1) week before class, tuition refunded at 100%, less the $100 for processing costs.
- Within one (1) week before to one (1) week after the first class, tuition is refunded at 70%, less $100 for processing costs.
- During the second or third week of class, tuition is refunded at 30%, less $100 for processing than
- After the third week of class, no tuition refund will be made.
- Due to dismissals, as outlined in the Student Handbook, no tuition refund will be made.
Program Withdrawal or Dismissal Notification
Program Withdrawal or Dismissal Notification
The Nurse Administrator shall notify the Financial Aid officer and the Business Manager within one (1) week of a student officially withdrawing or from the date of determining a dismissal. Students receiving Title IV Federal Financial Assistance are subject to the federal refund policy R2T4. R2T4 calculations are completed within 45 days from the date of determination.
Student withdrawal and requests for refunds must be made in writing and addressed to the Practical Nursing Nurse Administrator and the Business Manager. All refunds will be made within 45 days.
Third Party Payments
When a student is receiving funds from a third party, if this third party should withdraw or not make payments for any reason, the student is responsible for tuition and other expenses before graduation. Students receiving third-party payments must have the total payment applied to the entire tuition bill before generating a credit balance.
Surveys
Diman Regional School of Practical Nursing participates in Title IV federal financial aid programs. As a result, surveys will be administered in October, the end of the program, and when any change in enrollment takes place (i.e. transfer from full to part-time program, withdrawal, etc. the information gathered on these surveys is used to satisfy Section 487 (a) (17) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and the Department of Education regulations at 34 C.F.R.S.668.14 (b) (19). This information is not used individually but in aggregate.
Student Responsibility
It is the student's responsibility to report any changes in their income and/or family (married, children) status; report financial awards to any other agency when required; and make restitution to other agencies, should there be an agreement to do so.
Regardless of any third-party payment, should this party withdraw approval or not make payment for any reason, the student is responsible for full tuition and other expenses in accordance with the tuition payment schedule. Students failing to make tuition payments in accordance with the tuition payment schedule will be terminated from the program.
Scholarships
Various scholarships are available throughout the school year and will be announced to the class and posted in the Practical Nurse Office. If a student is receiving Federal funds and is awarded a scholarship, the financial aid office must be notified so that the student’s award letter may be revised.

Program Technical Standards
The following information is being provided as required by the Federal Government Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 in response to the American with Disabilities Act.
In order to successfully complete the Nursing Program, certain physical and behavioral capabilities are required in course work and as part of your clinical experience. All nursing students must be able to satisfy these standards with or without a reasonable accommodation. These include:

How long is the program?
The Full-time Day Program is 10 months long, starting at the end of August and running through the end of June. It follows the Greater Fall River School District calendar off with approximately one-week vacations in December, February, and April.

How many hours of class are there each day?
FT Day classes run Monday through Friday and are normally held from 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM and clinical from 6:45 AM - 2:00 PM. Some evening rotations may be necessary to meet clinical objectives.
PT Day classes run Monday through Wednesday and are normally held from 7:45 AM - 12:00 PM and clinical from 6:45 AM - 2:00 PM. Some evening rotations may be necessary to meet clinical objectives.
Times may vary according to the availability of clinical agencies.
How many hours of study are there every day?
This is hard to answer because each student and their educational background are different. Several chapters of reading are assigned each day. There are multiple tests, usually every week, as well as written assignments and group projects. It is generally recommended that you plan 1-1 ½ hours of study time for each hour of class taken.
Is this program difficult?
In a word, yes. It is very intense with few breaks in the schedule. As it is considered to be a work training program, it is very different than taking one or two college-level courses each semester. A passing grade of 75 must be maintained in each subject area, to progress to the next term.
Many students find science-based courses, such as Anatomy and Physiology or Nutrition, difficult, if not more than nursing courses. If you can put your life “on hold” while you are in the program, it will be well worth it because you will have a rewarding career when you are finished.

Applications and Pre-Admission test date information may be downloaded from our website, printed, and mailed to our office upon completion.
Completed applications should include an essay as requested, a copy of an official high school transcript (not a diploma), or a GED test score sheet (not a certificate). These are required by state regulations regardless of college coursework taken or degrees attained.
Most high schools will mail the official transcript directly to our program. If you receive an official copy, keep it in a sealed institution envelope and forward it to us unopened. The application fee should be paid at the time the application is mailed.
Applicants educated outside the U.S. for high school must supply an official copy of the evaluation (not translation) of education in their country by a certifying agency. Information on acceptable agencies may be obtained through our office.
Completed applications will not be acknowledged. Information regarding the next available Pre-Admission test dates will be found on the website.
Applications are kept on file for only the current year the Program is testing for.
What are the admission requirements?
You must either have a high school diploma or a GED. In addition, applicants must meet minimum standards on a standardized Pre-Admission test, attend an interview, and after meeting the minimum test standards submit three references on school forms that will be provided at the time of the interview.
A pre-entrance health examination is required of all accepted students, including a urine drug screen and immunizations. This documentation must be completed before the first day of school.

When do I find out if I'm admitted?
Applicants, who meet the minimum test standard, are interviewed and supply required references may be accepted beginning October 1 until the program is full. Applicants meeting criteria after the program is full will be kept on a wait list until July 30 only. Applicants not accepted or not taken from the wait list must reapply/retest.
What are my financial obligations once I am notified of admission?
Applicants notified of admission have 30 days to submit a $500.00 ($100.00 non-refundable) seat/orientation payment.
The tuition payment schedule is according to the Program Tuition and Fees Schedule.
Students not paying on time will be removed from the acceptable list and placed on the waiting list for further consideration.
Can I receive credit for previous credits when I enter the program?
Applicants who have previously attended a college or university must follow the same admission procedure. If an applicant is accepted into the program, they can seek credit provided a grade of 75 (C) or better has been attained. A complete policy for this procedure may be viewed online in the Student Guidelines. (Advance Placement Policies/Transfer of Credit).
Is it possible to get my RN later if I decide to get my LPN now?
Yes, it is and we encourage students to further their education. Many of our graduates have successfully gone on to institutions of higher education. You should inquire about the school you are considering as to what their admission or advance placement policy is in this matter.

TEAS Test
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS VII) is a requirement. The current required version is the TEAS, Seventh Edition.
Diman Regional Technical Institute requires all four subjects. The minimum requirements are listed below:
Reading: Minimum score is 65%
Math: Minimum score is 63%
Science: Minimum score is 42%
English: Minimum score is 55%
OR
Overall score in the proficient range (58.7 - 79.3%) or higher

The Licensed Practical Nursing program is fully accredited by the Council of Occupational Education (COE).
The Licensed Practical Nursing program has Full Approval Status from the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Transcript Request Policy
Student transcripts are generated and a final hard copy is placed in the student file upon graduation. One unofficial transcript is given to each student at the completion of the program. Current students, former students, and graduates may contact the school at any time and request additional transcripts for a $5.00 fee per transcript.
Offical transcript copies will be mailed to the agency/institution indicated on the release form. An unofficial transcript will also be mailed to your current address in the same day's mail as a confirmation that the official transcript was sent.
Official transcript copies may be handed to student/graduate in a sealed envelope with an official stamp.
