Class of 2022 Update

  • April 27, 2021

Dear Diman Class of 2022 Families:

During the April 20th Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting, it was determined that Massachusetts will modify the state graduation requirements for students in the Class of 2022 so that they will not need to pass the MCAS tests in order to earn their Competency Determination (CD).

Simply put, students in the Class of 2022 will not need to pass MCAS exams to be eligible to graduate.

However, grade 11 students may choose to participate in the MCAS ELA and Mathematics tests for the purposes of earning student scholarships and awards from the state. Current grade 11 students who decide to take the MCAS exams may also choose whether they wish to take the exams in spring 2021 or fall 2021.

The two questions that all grade 11 students and families need to discuss are:

    1. Am I choosing to take the optional ELA and Mathematics MCAS exams?
    2. If yes, am I choosing to take the optional MCAS exams this spring or this fall?

The state scholarships that rely directly on MCAS scores are the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery Award. We encourage students and their families to examine these state awards to determine whether or not taking the optional MCAS exams is in the student’s best interest.

Families who decide that the optional MCAS exam is in the student’s best interest must indicate their interest in spring testing by filling out the linked form below. Grade 11 students who decide that they will take the optional MCAS exams this spring must complete this form before Monday, May 3rd. The number of testing days we offer, the specific dates that the exams will be administered, and the final logistics will be determined by the amount of students who decide to take the optional MCAS.

Students intending to the take the MCAS this fall should not fill out the Google Form.
