Carpentry-Cabinetmaking Shop Procedures

    • All Diman handbook rules are in effect in shop at all times.
    • Students must be in the line up and ready for attendance by the 7:45 morning bell and the 12:13 lunch bell. Students will make up the missed time at the end of the day. If this is abused (more than three times) in a given cycle then a 30 minute detention will be issued each time the student is late thereafter.
    • All cell phones and other electronic devices must be placed in your locker prior to the start of school and may not be removed until the end of the school day. If found they will be turned in and shall be returned by the Shop Coordinator.
    • Students must stay in the area of the shop assigned unless given permission.
    • Students are not allowed in their lockers after morning announcements unless permission has been granted from the Teacher.
    • No running or horse playing in shop at anytime.
    • Students must wear their ID at all times on their belt or clipped to a shirt using a retractable ID holder/clip so it is visible. IDs may be removed when working with equipment or tools that may cause it to become a safety hazard.
    • Students will have a tool inspection at time of attendance. An employability / prepared for work grade will be issued at this time. Student’s tools should be inscribed with their name. Don’t borrow or take any tools from another student. Tool pouches will be worn at all times unless specified.
    • Do not use or touch any tools or equipment in the shop unless a safety test has been administered, proper use of the tool has been demonstrated to you, and you have the instructor’s permission to use them.
    • Do not nail, screw, or dent benches. Do not over tighten or play with the vises.
    • No jewelry is to be worn during shop and must be placed in your locker. (Hoop Earrings, Necklaces, Rings, Bracelets and etc.) Stud earrings will be allowed. No long finger nails, real or artificial. .
    • Proper shop uniform will be worn at all times from 7:45 — 2:28; A shop logo collared shirt tucked in or shop logo sweat shirt not hooded, boot cut khaki pants and steel toe boots will be worn at all times. Pants should fit appropriately and a belt will be worn as well. No excessively baggy pants are allowed in shop.
    • No food or drinks will be allowed in shop except during shop break or when specified permission has been given. Remember breaks in shop are a privilege. Breaks will be shortened or excluded if the proper conduct is not met.
    • Students must ask permission to go to the bathroom and legibly sign out and sign back in on the bathroom sheet, with the date and time. A bathroom pass must be taken.
    • Respect one another and treat others, as you would have them treat you.
