Special Education Teacher, Serving as Liaison to Students with Disabilities
Bachelor of Arts, Economics and History - University of Massachusetts - Amherst
Licensure in Moderate Disabilities (6 - 12)
I am the Special Education teacher, serving as a liaison to students with disabilities. This is my second year at Diman, but I have 9 years experience in Special Education and more than 20 years experience in project management.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me by either email or phone. Email is preferable, because I move throughout the building during the day, but check my email regularly. If your child requires additional support, my extra help day is Wednesday and I will be in room B110 until 3:30pm.
As the Special Education Teacher serving as a liaison, I perform the following duties:
-
Meet with each student to help them complete their annual Transition Inventory, develop their IEP Vision Statement and identify academic areas they feel require additional support.
-
Meet with each student to review their current IEP accommodations and modifications for effectiveness and help them identify new ones.
-
Develop IEP goals that are serviced across multiple academic settings, such as Executive Functioning, Attention and Self-Regulation.
-
Help students to understand all the components of their IEP and empower them to advocate for themselves.
-
Review progress monitoring data with Special Education Teachers to identify additional student needs.
-
Conduct in-class observations for students who are struggling and schedule post-observation-conferences to discuss student behaviors.
-
Maintain communication between parents, teachers and special education staff.
-
Support students with academic needs when required and as needed.
-
Support students during times of crisis and reach out to the appropriate school personnel.
