Admission Guidelines

  1. Any student who is presently enrolled in grade 8, 9 or 10, whose parents are of Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, and Westport may apply.
  2. Applications for openings in grade 9 are accepted from January through February. Applications after the deadline will be considered in unusual circumstance such as moving into the region after the normal application period.
  3. Applications will be available after Jan. 2 at middle, junior, private & parochial schools and at the Pupil Personnel Services Office (PPS) at Diman or on-line at www.dimanregional.org. After May 1, they will be available at seniors high school. Applicants and their parent are to complete the front side of the applications. Once the front side has been completed, the application must then be submitted to the student's present school for completion. The school will forward the application to the Diman PPS office.
  4. Applicants who meet the following standards will receive consideration for possible acceptance:
    1. Passing English and math with an average grade 65.
    2. Has not been absent more than 15 days for the current school year (absences due to serious illness, hospitalization or a death in the immediate family are not considered.)
    3. Has a passing grade of (65 or above) in CONDUCT.
    4. Receives favorable recommendation from their current school.
  5. Applicants who meet the minimum standards will receive points based on a rating of:
    1. Five personal qualities-dependability, leadership, cooperation, attitude toward school and appearance
    2. Conduct
    3. Effort
    4. Marks in English, math, science, and social studies for last year and the current school year
    5. School Attendance
    6. The recommendation of their current school
  6. Selection of applicants planning to enter grade 9 is normally complete by mid-March. Students not initially accepted, but who meet minimum standards, will be placed on the "Waiting List." Students from the "Waiting List" will be selected to fill openings that arise prior to October 1.
  7. Applicants who are notified of acceptance will be required to take a series of tests at Diman during the April vacation. The results are used for academic and vocational placement.
  8. Applicants for grade 9 will be notified through their present school as to whether they have been accepted, placed on the "Waiting List" or not accepted. Students accepted after the close of school in June will be notified as to whether they have been accepted, placed on the "Waiting List," or not accepted. Student's accepted after the close school in June will be notified by telephone or mail.
  9. Students not initially accepted or who are not taken from "Waiting List" must reapply if they wish to be considered for admission the following year.
  10. Applicants for opening in grades 10 and 11 should not apply until after May 15.
  11. Final selections of applicants for grades 10 and 11 will be made during the summer when shop openings can be determined. Applicants from each community will be rank ordered based on the number of points earned. Of the total number of students accepted approximately 76% will be from Fall River, 10% from Somerset, 8% from Swansea and 6% from Westport.
