Advisor's note: Students around Diman recall Mr. Howayeck's calm demeanor and his polite, friendly ways. His pleasant attitude put many students at ease. Now, Mr. Howayeck has taken his warm personality and calm attitude to his new position as the director of Pupil Personnel Services. Instead of helping students daily, he will now assist both students and guidance counselors daily. He has taken over for retired PPS Director Mr. Michael Muscarella.

Q: How does it feel to have this new position?

A: Because of being a guidance counselor for 25 years, It's quite different from what I'm use to doing. So being Director of PPS is a very big change. Now I deal with more of the adults, but I still deal with the students at times.

Q: Why did you want to start being the director of PPS?

A: The job became available because Mr. Muscarella retired. I wasn't quite sure I was up for it. I've been quite comfortable with being a guidance counselor. I'm looking forward to doing this job. It's a step up and a big change.

Q: How do you get along with the guidance counselors?

A: Well, I get along with all of them very well. I'm very fortunate to have an excellent guidance staff. They all have their own personalities that work well with the school.

Q: How do you feel the school is getting by now?

A: This year has been very smooth, even though we have more students. There can be some who think it has been hectic though.
