The Empire Strikes Back
In our last issue, Diman Boston Red Sox fans Josh Ferreira and Casey Gamache, both freshmen, gave an overview of the Sox's upcoming season. In this issue, Diman Sophomore Dominic Freitas has struck back with an overview of another baseball team cherished by Diman students - the vaunted New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees made huge moves this year. One would be picking up one of the top five centerfielders. Who you might be wondering this is? It is the speedy ex-Boston Red Sox Johnny Damon. Another addition is Mike Myers, Carl Pavano and Jaret Wright are finally off the disabled list and ready to play. As of 3/19/06, Al Lieter retires after one last appearance.
The Yankees have a very good lineup this year. Johnny Damon, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi, Robinson Cano, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, and Hideki Matsui will also play. Back to pitchers for a minute -- the Yankees, as many other clubs like the Red Sox, for example have interest in signing "The Rocket" Roger Clemens. As some Yankees fans remember, the Rocket spent a couple of years with the New York Yankees. He started his career with the Boston Red Sox then moved on to the Toronto Blue Jays where he spent a few seasons. Then he moved on to as many say Mr. Big Bucks and the Yankees: George Streinberner. There coaching staff is Joe Torre- Manager, Lee Mazzilli- Bench Coach, Tony Pena- First Base Coach, Larry Bowa- Third Base Coach, Don Mattingly- Hitting Coach, Ron Guidry- Pitching Coach, Joe Kerrigan Bullpen Coach, Rich Monteleone- Special Pitching Instructor, Rob Thomson, who is Special Assignment Instructor. As some older Red Sox fans would remember Tony Pena was a former Red Sox; he played catcher for the Sox. The Red Sox just like letting the Yankees take players from them. The Yankees lost John Flaherty to the Red Sox. Tino Martinez retired and ex-Yankees Alfonso Soriano went to the Washington Nationals from the Texas Rangers. The Yankees picked up Miguel Cairo, another speedy guy. They also signed veteran catcher Kelly Stinett. They also signed right handed pitcher Scott Erickson. This year the Yankees will pick up their 27th World Series title.
