Diman Hockey Takes Off

Recently in the last article there was a lot of controversy on Diman's Varsity Ice Hockey's status as far as how the season would go. The team was still undecided on who the captains were going to be and how things were going to be set-up. There was actually word going around that Mr. J was going to take over the team and Mr. Lima was going to have to step out for personal reasons. This turned out to be untrue and Mr. Lima ended up the head coach of the team once again. Along his side is Mr..Nowell of the Carpentry Shop and Mr. St. Laurent, who has helped out the team for many years. As the season has ended, a lot of questions have been answered.

As of this year, the team had chosen their captains. The captain of the team is senior Craig LaChance of the Electricity Shop, and by his side as assistant captains are Senior Graham Powers of Machine Shop, Senior Jonathan Castro of the House and Mill Carpentry Shop, Junior Joshua Lacroix of the Electricity Shop, and Junior Brandon Stukus of the Electricity Shop. These captains have also received help and support by the other three upper-class men, Bryant Guillmette, Wayne Lewis, and Timothy Arruda.

Along with the seniors and juniors doing everything they can, the freshman class has been outstanding and has really turned out to be everything that they were expected to be. The "Red line", which was a line created by head coach Mr. Lima, has been absolutely lethal in the offensive zone this season. This line includes two freshmen who have done a great job in the offensive part of the game, Joshua and Jon Brunelle. These brothers have had a big impact on the team this year especially with the help of Joshua Lacroix setting good examples for them.

Furthermore, good offense also needs help from the defense. A team needs to be good at both ends of the ice. A team with amazing offense may score 1,000 goals and lose by one. Another freshman who has come up and progressed tremendously is Branden Ganem of the Plumbing and Heating Shop. This young kid has assisted in the progression of the team. He, like all the freshmen, have received a lot of motivational support by the upper-class men. Powers, Castro, and Stukus have done everything in their power for the best of his high school hockey career. He has a lot of potential as a future leader along with Sophomore Eric Couto.

In conclusion, the season has gone by very quickly and the team has done very well. The team currently finished its last game of the state tournament but was beat by 1st seeded Situate. Mr. Lima has said, "If you skate hard, skate like every shift is your last, play the way we've taught you, and you play like you want to win, we can definitely make states". Furthermore, everything he said was right and the team ended up finishing the season 8-8-4. It was a great year for the Bengals; let's hope this year will set the tone for the next.
