Contestants Shine in SkillsUSA Competition

For the 21st consecutive year, SkillsUSA had many outstanding contestants at the competition in the auditorium on Feb. 9. The judges took careful considerations into scoring the contestants. The contestants featured a wide array of Diman students from all different shops. The contestants for a long time, working with their English teachers and related teachers, tweaked and fine-tuned their performance; all gave informative speeches. This was the first step toward moving onto the state competition. The winners of the competition will move on to the state competition.

- First Place - Hina Naveed (health careers)
- Second Place - Alicia Medeiros (health careers)
- Third Place - Jonathon Root (culinary arts)
- Action Skill: Michelle Moniz
- Job Skill Category B: Erica Dube
The judges:
Mr. Dennis Abdow - former student and teacher here at Diman who became Vocational Coordinator. He then retired from Diman in 2000 and began a push for the SkillsUSA organization.
Mr. Rick Snizek - editor of the Fall River Spirit which is a newspaper publication that's free in the greater Fall River Area. This was Mr. Snizeks' second year in being involved with the SkillsUSA organization.
Mr. Robert Ciosek - graduate of Diman and returned as a teacher of House and Mill Carpentry. He has succeeded in being the Carpentry Department Head and a Cluster Supervisor. He was also the vocational coordinator until he ceased to become co-op coordinator for Diman. Mr. Ciosek is proudly the Diman SkillsUSA Chapter Advisor; something he's been doing for over 20 years.
We can't forget Jenna Mitchell. Jenna was the official Time Keeper. She's a sophomore in culinary arts.
