Game Review: God of War II

Above: Kratos takes on Zeus in God of War II

By Daniel Hollenbach ‘09

From the Great Gods of Olympus comes God of War II. For anyone that has played the first game, you know what to look forward to. The second game takes place a few years after the first. The main character, Kratos, is the new god of war. After his reign as god there has been nothing but war and death. The gods of Olympus are very displeased with his work. But even after he is warned by the god Athena, he continues his work. The ruler of Olympus, Zeus, then removes Kratos’ godlike abilities and casts him down. As anyone who has played as Kratos before knows, he will get revenge. In the first God of War he takes revenge by killing the original god of War, Ares. Now he has aimed his sights on the Ruler of all Olympus, Zeus.

This game contains many new weapons and abilities that will amaze you just as much as the first God of War did. This game contains many more references to ancient Greek Mythology than the first game did making it very educational. If you are a fan of games of war or Greek Mythology, I highly recommend this game. As great as I may suggest it is, however, the game is extremely violent and has pretty harsh scenes.

The graphics are also incredible to look at, and will keep you wanting to play until your hands get numb. God Of War II is rated M (Mature). Personally I enjoyed this game some much more than the first, and believe that if you loved the first you will love this one too. This will be the first time I am giving this rating. I give the God Of War 2 for the PS2. A complete 10 out of 10 score!
