Cheerleading is a Sport!

Jenna Chabot '09 and Shayla Kelley-Truman '09

Gooooo team!

Cheerleading is a very important sport, from the team spirit right down to the dedication it takes to be on the squad. This year's season is a little different for Diman cheerleaders. We have a new coach, Ms. Soares, and she's the best! We also have a new captain, and there are now two divisions, junior varsity and a new varsity squad. The cheerleaders have also begun cheering for the football team this year.

The cheerleading Captain is Chloe Lemaire, a junior in Drafting. Chloe's job is to work hard at keeping the team together. Cheerleading is hard work: we pick out our own uniforms, and raise money by holding carwashes and selling things such as candles. The best part of cheerleading is going to the Diman games, and the competition is fun. It's great to show off all our hard work from practice. The worst part of cheerleading is losing games.

Many people question if cheerleading even IS a sport. As cheerleaders who practice every day and work hard, we can say that cheerleading is most definitely a sport. It is said by some to be one of the most dangerous sports out there. We work hard and practice just as hard as any other team at Diman. If you are interested in joining the cheerleading squad, come to tryouts next year! This year, our practices are from 3-5 every day except for Thursday. Come be a part of the cheerleading squad, because you can make new friends, and be a part of something you will remember forever!
