Spotlight on: Spotlight Program
Hina Naveed, '07
Every morning and afternoon at Diman, you hear announcements regarding meetings for different clubs in school, whether it be National Honor Society, Key Club, the Tradesman, the diversity club or even Spotlight. Spotlight is one such club, and this article will help clear up any questions you might have about this program.
Spotlight is a program based at UMASS Dartmouth every Thursday from 3:15 to 5:30 p.m. The bus picks us up and drops us off at school, but getting a ride home at 5:30 has to be arranged individually. Every week there are guest speakers. Some of the presentations are very interesting: for example the African Dance and Music presentation was very unique, and the Handwriting Analysis presentation allowed you to figure out someone's character and personality just by looking at their writing.
After a couple of presentations you get to pick which course which you will go to for the next 4 weeks. Examples include:
African Dance and Music: learn about African American culture.
Guerilla Theatre: develop an original theatre piece.
Its Hip to be Square: learn basic developments of digital photography.
Spotlight on College Radio: learn the essen tials of being a DJ and go on air!
Yoga: get a new focus on your physical and mental health
Art: Artistic experimentation for those who are artistically inclined.
There are also field trips to Harvard University and New York!!
Interested? Contact Mrs. Jonsson in Room B233.
