Smooth Skating For Diman Ice Hockey

Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School's varsity ice hockey team has been very successful over the years as well as very unsuccessful also; but all teams have a bad year here and there. However, the varsity team this year is looking very well according to what has been seen at the conditioning practices.

Last years Head Coach Mr. Lima of the Facilities Management Shop decided that the team should not announce captains and basically have anyone who wanted to step up as a leader do so. Yet, two years ago the team did have captains who were Daniel Barreria, Shaun Tavares, Derek Zmuda, and Derek Tavares, all of whom were seniors. This senior class led the team to the states where they were crushed 12-3 by the team(Bourne High School) who ended up winning the state tournament.

This years captains also haven't been announced yet but Craig Lachance, Jonathan Castro, and Graham Powers are four seniors who will be returning this year. Also of the Junior class returning are Kraig Pereira, Timmy Arruda, Wayne Lewis, Josh Lacroix, James Souza, Matthew Barreria, and Brandon Stukus.

Throughout the school year, many seem to be anxious about the hockey season. The Prenda Cup and the Jamboree are very big events in which a lot of students attend to watch their schools square off. These events take place at the Driscoll rink in Fall River and attendance seems to be larger every year. I really do urge Diman students to attend and support the team and watch a good show.

Furthermore , it seems as though Diman will have a great season this year with the welcoming of Taunton High School who has entered the Mayflower League this year. The Tradesman wishes the best of luck to the ice hockey team in addition to all of Diman's winter sports.
