Journalism Shop?

By: Daniel Medeiros

What do you think about Journalism as a shop here at Diman Regional? You could produce more issues of the Tradesman. Each A and B weeks would be able to try and complete the issue.

Journalism would make it easier to have Tradesman meetings and would allow Diman to produce more issues, allowing the public to receive even more evidence as to why so many people are choosing Diman Regional as an option for high school. It could also help further illustrate why Diman's programs are so effective. Mr. Wagner, "The Advisor" of the Tradesman, would be able to be the instructor and would save the school a whole bunch of money on hiring one.

Some students probably would want journalism as a shop, for a few reasons. They are either great writers, have great imaginations, or just would like to be involved with a newspaper.

Also, I think that having journalism would get students more interested in English. Freshmen Exploratory would consist of learning how to conduct interviews. The instructor could teach how to be a reporter, columnist, sports reporter, photographer, or a feature writer.

Freshmen and sophomores could write the movie reviews and small articles. The juniors and seniors could do the bigger pieces like sports, current events, and maybe even articles about the school or local government.

Even if Journalism does someday become a shop, I will be long gone from Diman Regional. Even if I will be out of Diman I think the future generations would enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing this article.

Also, if Journalism would become a shop, it would help students do better on M.C.A.S. If not, then they will still have a bright future in English.
