Prom Season Blooms

Fashion Column

As we all know prom is approaching in just a short few months, and what better than a fashion column on just that: Prom fashion. As exciting as prom is because of all the partying, the music, and the dancing, it can also be just as hectic.

Choosing the "perfect dress" can be quite a dilemma. A lot of thought goes into choosing one: What color to select, whether it is too short or too long, too sparkly, the design, and how much skin is shown. It's hard to find the right one.

The color of the dress is critical when it comes to deciding what is right for you. The dress should not be too vibrant, for example hot pink, but at the same time should not be too dull. Black looks very formal, and can also make the beauty of a person stand out. If you choose a stylish black dress, it would match your date if he chose to wear a black tuxedo.

Most colors match black, and eliminate the pressure of having to match your date's outfit. Black tuxedos are formal, yet subtle, and often times other colors like light blue don't appear so nicely. If black isn't for you, white is another classic option. You may want to refrain from wearing a white dress if you aren't a neat person because it can become dirty easily - but otherwise look stunning if kept clean.

If you still have trouble picking a color -- gold and tan are very nice colors. They aren't vibrant, but aren't dull either. They are some of the best colors in contrast with tanned skin, and look very nice with almost anything. They stand out, and everyone wants to be noticed for prom. If you decide on a gold or tan dress, a nude shoe would match wonderfully. Pastels are very nice - for instance, light lilac or sea foam green are both great colors. Again, a nude shoe goes with everything, as well as black.

For length, and how much skin to show, the decision is completely up to you. A longer dress, tied in the back, and a slit mid way up the leg, and ruffled on the bottom would be an ideal dress for anyone.

Accessories are always important, and look very nice if you choose the right color. A silver or sparkly necklace and earrings always look good with cool skin tones, while gold looks good on warmer tones. Try not to mix too many colors; stick with silver, gold, black, or white.

In conclusion, prom is a very important day for seniors, or whoever is attending. You want to look perfect for that night, and I hope I've helped. If you follow these guidelines and stay away from sky-blue tuxedos, it will be a night to remember.
