Chris Gendreau's Movie Reviews

When a Stranger Calls

2 out of 4 Stars

Pretty much the title tells you all you need to know. A teenage girl named Jill has to baby-sit two children at a stranger's home at a remote location. The movie begins slowly since both of the kids are already asleep and she has nothing to do but either read a book or explore this huge house. Within the first half hour of the movie, Jill starts getting calls from a man who seems to be watching everything that Jill does within the house. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat, but you start expecting a huge climax between the girl and the stalker which ends up being nothing like what you hoped for. This movie leaves you knowing just as much about the stalker as you did when it began. I'd say go see the movie but don't expect a lot of horror especially since the big surprise in this movie was given away in the T.V. trailer.

The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe

3 out of 4 Stars

If I was to describe this whole movie, I'd need a larger section in The Tradesman. Basically four children hide within a wardrobe after they break a window and enter into a magical world called Narnia. In Narnia they meet a wide array of characters from the evil witch Jadis, to the kind and heroic lion Aslan. They join forces with Aslan and a huge group of creatures to defend Narnia from Jadis and her armies of evil. Based on the first book in the Narnia series by C. S. Lewis, this movie adds some scenes that weren't in the book. The four children are perfect for their roles and the woman who plays Jadis adds certain flair to the witch that makes her a true villain. The reason I didn't give it four stars is it took a little while for all of the kids to get to Narnia and some of the creatures weren't the most realistic. I'd definitely recommend this movie for the whole family because it has something for everybody.
