SOX Spring into '06

Will the 2006 Boston Red Sox be better than last year? Well to start off, the Red Sox pitching staff has changed a lot, such as with newly acquired right-handed pitchers Josh Beckett, David Riske, and Julian Tavarez. All three of these players have a career earned run average of 4.33 of less. These pitchers are all big improvement to the Red Sox rotation.

Not just the pitching rotation has changed but the lineup has too. New acquirements such as Center Fielder Coco Crisp, Third Baseman Mike Lowell, First Baseman J.T. Snow and Second Baseman Mark Loretta bring good speed and excellent hitting to the team. Coco Crisp is a good asset to the team because he replaces former Red Sox Center Fielder Johnny Damon, who signed with the New York Yankees right before Christmas. J.T. Snow will replace Kevin Millar who has signed with the Baltimore Orioles. Bill Mueller went to Los Angeles to play for the Dodgers and his replacement is Mike Lowell.

Manny Ramirez was a big topic of conversation this off-season. He hasn't been traded yet but many trade rumors have circulated around the league. Manny was said to go to the Orioles for Shortstop Miguel Tejada, but that hasn't happened yet. Or a three-team deal which would involve the Mets, Devil Rays and the Red Sox. Manny would go to the Mets, and Aubrey Huff to the Sox, but none of these trades ever happened. Manny has claimed that he wants to stay in Boston for a few more years, and we'll see if that happens.

The Red Sox have claimed that they are interested in acquiring right handed pitcher Roger Clemens, who played for the Houston Astros for the last two years after leaving the New York Yankees. Clemens, who started his career in Boston back in 1984, might have worked have his way back to the big time. Clemens has a career earned run average of 3.12 and the Red Sox need numbers like that. Roger racked up a record of 192 wins and 111 losses in his 12-year career playing for the Boston Red Sox.

Theo Epstein's new job is his old job, General Manger of the Boston Red Sox. He returned after quitting the job one month ago. He will return to continue the Red Sox' quest for their second World Series win in three years.
