Alexandra's Picks: The Top Five Christmas Movies
![]() Elf counts down Alexandra's movie picks |

If you are looking for an entertaining Christmas film, there are the MUST-SEES. My top picks for movies that make the season bright are Elf, A Christmas Story, Home Alone 2, The Grinch, and 29th Street.
- Elf encourages Christmas cheer and the belief in Santa Claus. Will Ferrel plays a human who grows up thinking he is an over-sized elf. His mission is to find his real father, and encounters many friends in the process. It is a must-see for belly laughs.
- Absolutely everyone finds a liking for A Christmas Story. You will be caroling "Tis the season to be jorry, Fah rah rah rah rah rah rah rah rah..." even though that isn't how it is traditionally sung.
- Home Alone 2 is the perfect family film. It includes chaos and adventures experienced by a boy who accidentally ends up in New York City for the holiday. The movie proves that Christmas is not in fact Christmas at all without your family; you shouldn't spend the holidays feeling lonely.
- The Grinch is a Dr.Seuss masterpiece about a hairy green bully of a creature, the Grinch (played by Jim Carrey), who grew up to hate Christmas and everyone in Whoville due to his unhappy childhood. He becomes a "Scrooge," but like A Christmas Carol, this film shows that everybody has a heart, whether they deny it or not, and it is biggest during Christmas time. It also shows that the Christmas spirit is everywhere, even in a tiny delicate snowflake.
- 29th Street is the type of movie that can be enjoyed even if watched repeatedly. It takes place in New York around Christmas time. An Italian family owes a large debt and an unplanned purchase of a lotto ticket is made by a man born lucky. The story is told in reverse, beginning with the lotto results. The audience will be left satisfied with many unexpected laughs.
After viewing the top five holiday flick picks yourself, you'll give them all five stars.
Here are some runner-ups:
- Santa Clause 1 and 2: a non-believer becomes Santa Claus himself.
- Love Actually: the moral is a peaceful song performed by the Beatles, "All you need is love".
- Eight Crazy Nights: meant for the eyes and ears of Adam Sandler fans.
- Noel: a tangled tear-jerking Christmas story about the interlacing of five lives.
- Miracle on 34th Street: a black and white Christmas classic, loved by people of all ages. The Christmas Shoes: has been rumored to make both boys and girls shed a tear or two. The Nightmare before Christmas: Tim Burton film that's very popular amongst teens.

These and other wonderful holiday movies will be playing on television beginning on the first of December, and counting down to Christmas Day. Enjoy!
