Winter Fashion Review: Fake fur, boyish cuts, and plain hues are the fashion this winter
Evan Ladeira '10
Well, it's that time of year again. You're done shopping for the people you love, so it's time to spoil yourself. Listen and I will teach you about this year's winters fashions, along with a few tricks and tips to keep you styling.
For many designers, winter is the preferred time to design for. Winter brings textures and colors! This season, keep your colors simple: black, gray, or cream. For the girls, trims are in, along with multi-layering.
There are three basic looks on the runways this winter: Oriental, Gothic, and Military. For that Oriental style, choose a wraparound top or a Chinese neckline. If you go Gothic, think makeup, tight mesh tops, and black hair. For that Military style, pick up some combat or cargo pants or mesh tops.
Here are some tips for looking your best this winter. The bigger the pattern, the bigger you will look! Horizontal patterns will make you look wider, while vertical patterns make you look taller and thinner. Trouser cuffs are out there, but watch out because they make anyone look short and big. For a splash of color in winter, wear a red under layer to spice up your muted shades. And glamorous fake fur gives sharply tailored winter coats and jackets an edge of sophistication. The cut for this season, even for the girls, is boyish. Designers have focused on a new type of masculine tailoring. The key to pulling off this look for girls is adding a feminine touch, wearing cool skinny suits or wide pants.
