Cliff Diving

Kolby Andrade

The bright red sky fades from vibrant scarlet into a pink horizon.
I've never seen a sunset so beautiful in my life.

The wind is cool on my face, the breeze tangles my hair, in bronze wisps all around my face.
The gravel beneath my feet is rough, but somehow it's not tough.

I pace slowly to the edge of the cliff.
Water still glistening from the leftover sunset.

I take a few steps back.
I inhale, I sprint.

Into the sunset, I'm flying.

The air smells so good, so crisp, I can taste it, I can feel it.
I scream, letting go of every grudge I ever held, forgiving, believing.

As I plunge into the deep waters, all is forgotten, and all is forgiven.

I look up at the faded beauty of the sky.
Knowing that when I trudge out of these waters,
life will be completely different.
