    Carpentry-Cabinetmaking Program hammers away at new technology

    Hammers and nails have been joined by advanced machinery and computers in Diman Carpentry-Cabinetmaking shop. Students still learn traditional carpentry, but visitors to the program would also see students programming advanced CNC (computer-numeric controlled) machines to carve intricate designs and patterns into wood.

    Diman Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations

    The committee for the Diman Hall of Fame has opened nominations during the month of February for consideration for this 2017 honor. Nominations must be submitted by February 28th to be placed on the ballot this year. (1/30/17)

    Retired Diman teacher earns award, passes on legacy

    Diman is pleased to announce that recently retired teacher Edward Carreiro has won the American Welding Society’s “Howard E. Adkins Memorial Instructor Award.” Carreiro, who retired from the Metal Fabrication and Joining Technologies program in 2016, was surprised when the award was presented to him on 1/5/17, but that didn’t stop him from offering sage advice to students in shop.     Diman receives more guitars from local groups

    Ray Mullin Music and The Kevin Wright Celebration of Music have boosted Diman’s nascent music program for the second time in a year with a donation of guitars. The Swansea shop teamed with the local charity to donate four guitars and a box of strings to the program, an after-school club geared to teaching students and staff how to play the six-string.     Diman is pleased to announce that 93 students have earned the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship in 2016 Recipients of the state-run scholarship program are entitled to 8 semesters of tuition-free education at any Massachusetts state college or university. (12/5/16)

    German consul general visits Fall River to tour Diman - and likes what he sees

    In the machine tool shop at Diman, the machines whir. But there’s not as much whir as there would have been 50 years ago. Instead, there is the silence of computers as students do exacting design work before the work even gets to a machine. (12/2/16)
